Here is what Kalidou Koulibaly had to say when he faced racism while playing at Lazio in Rome. He said,
At Lazio, in Rome. I was a bit sad, actually a lot. I say, they're making monkey sounds at me. They make these sounds, but what is it?Then I say, but there's a problem. The manager sensed that it bothered me. He saw it in my attitude in the pitch. He said," Kouli is not doing well. We have to stop the game right now".
The referee, Irrati, decided to stop the match. We waited for five minutes, we stopped. They made an announcement in the stadium saying,"you have to stop these racist chants". We stopped the match but these noises didn't stop. It really saddened me a lot.
I remembered before the match, the kid who walked onto the pitch with me, asked for my shirt and I promised I would give it to him. I was walking towards the exit because they had made me angry and I don't know how, but I got that instinct," Ah, I had promised to givethe kid my shirt, where is he?" . I looked for him in the stands. I found him and gave him the shirt and he said ,"I'm sorry for what happened".
A little kid like that who apologizes on behalf of...I don't know how many stupid people. I said,"Don't worry, and THANK YOU, I'll see you" and I left.
